During my own home-buying experience, I found myself in a situation that many others face when securing a mortgage: I wasn’t fully aware of all the options available to me. Like many people, I chose the route that felt most familiar — a bank. I assumed it was the standard path and didn’t question it. But as I moved through the approval process and got deeper into the home-buying journey, I realized I wasn’t fully informed about alternatives, such as working with a mortgage broker.

It wasn’t until I was in the thick of it that I started to understand just how many choices were available to me. More importantly, it was a life-changing career decision I was facing that really shifted my perspective. After years in the new home sales industry, I had left my job and was unsure about what path to take next. I knew my passion for helping others couldn’t end there — I wanted to continue guiding people through their journey to homeownership.

At a crossroads, I gave myself two options: I thought about becoming a Realtor, but the idea of constantly being on the road and spending weekends away from my family didn’t appeal to me. Or, I could become a mortgage broker, which would allow me the flexibility to run my own business from home while still being present for my loved ones. And let’s face it, not having to wear heals all day is a bonus!

It wasn’t a hard decision. Becoming a mortgage broker meant I could have a more flexible schedule, help clients achieve homeownership, and still be there for my family. I could watch my girls grow and maintain the important balance between work and life. The decision to become a mortgage broker will not only improve my family’s future but also allow me to fulfill my passion for helping others.

As a mortgage broker, I now can work directly with clients to find the best solutions for them. I’m not just pushing them toward one product or lender — I’m listening to their needs and guiding them through their financial journey. There’s a unique satisfaction in being able to offer the right mortgage options, knowing I’m helping people achieve that moment of joy when they get approved and move toward owning their dream home.

Looking back, I wish I had known more about the differences between going to a bank and working with a mortgage broker when I first started my own home-buying journey. It’s something I wish I could have shared with others at that time. But now, as a mortgage broker, I am committed to ensuring my clients are fully informed, confident, and empowered in their choices. My mission is to make the mortgage process simpler, clearer, and more personalized for each individual, just as I wish it had been for me.

Becoming a mortgage broker wasn’t just a career change — it was about creating a life that allowed me to be present for my family while doing something I love. Reflecting on my journey and the extensive knowledge I’ve gained, I realize that if I had been fully informed about my options when I first entered the home-buying and refinancing process, I would have made some different decisions.
